BoxNation exits Freeview connect

Boxing service BoxNation has withdrawn its connected TV service from Freeview in favour of its online streaming platform.

The service ended on Friday 28th June, with subscribers being advised to try the broadcaster's HD streaming service.

BoxNation is offering affected Freeview viewers an option to try the service for free for one month by entering the promo code 'FREEVIEW' during the checkout process at watch.boxnation.com. The offer runs until Wednesday 31st July 2019. The service costs £12 a month following the free promotional period.

The online service offers live events and on-demand content.

BoxNation's Freeview outlet originally launched in 2015, and enabled subscribers with compatible connected TVs to stream BoxNation. Most recently, the service was found on channel 268 - where an advisory slate is currently being broadcast. Streamed services - also known as 'Freeview connect' channels have gradually been falling out of favour with broadcasters, as web-based services for smart TVs take over.

Freeview connect is not to be confused with the newer Freeview Play service, which combines web-based on-demand and catch-up TV with linear terrestrial broadcasts.
