Virgin Media claims cheapest and most convenient way to watch 2019-20 football season

Ahead of the start of the new football season, Virgin Media has thrown down the gauntlet to its competitors, claiming its service offers the cheapest and most convenient way to watch all the action.

The cable company is drawing attention to its "Bigger+Sports" bundle - currently priced at £65 per month for new customers -  which is home to all Sky Sports channels in HD as well as BT Sport in HD and 4K Ultra HD.

The forthcoming football season sees coverage of the Premier League split between Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon's Prime video service. Champions and Europa League coverage remains with BT.

Virgin says its Bigger+Sports bundle compares to Sky £103.58 for the closest comparable equivalent, £95.66 on TalkTalk and £86.68 with BT. Installation costs are not included in the comparison.

With Virgin Media, football fans can watch BT Sport’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches in 4K Ultra HD, which isn’t currently available on Sky. Also not available on Sky is the Amazon Prime Video app which Virgin Media recently added to its TV platform - although Amazon Prime Video is subject to a separate, standalone subscription.

David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, said:
Sports fans looking for their football fix next season need to look no further than Virgin Media. We’re, once again, bringing all of the football to Virgin TV in a single place with the cheapest UK packages all underpinned by our unrivalled ultrafast broadband. With the addition of Amazon Prime Video to our TV platform, as well BT Sport’s Ultra HD 4K channel* and Sky Sports, Virgin TV remains the home of televised football.

*The BT Sport 4K UHD channel is now known as BT Sport Ultimate.
