ITV pulls pay TV channel from multiple countries

ITV has closed its international pay TV service ITV Choice in Malta, the Middle East and South East Asia.

ITV Choice was carried on numerous pay TV operators in lands including Taiwan, Thailand, UAE and Malta.

It featured a schedule full of ITV's home grown programmes, including The Chase, Coronation Street, The Voice UK and drama series including Victoria and was popular among British communities throughout Asia.

Affected viewers have been advised by ITV to contact their service provider, despite it being an ITV move to shut the channel down.

However, the Africa version of the channel, broadcast on DStv across southern Africa, remains on-air and unaffected by the closure of its Asian counterpart.

ITV Choice was previously branded "ITV Granada" between 2010 and 2013, and "Granada TV" or "Granada UKTV" before 2010.

The move potentially paves the way for ITV to offer an online alternative, following the example of Britbox in the USA and Canada.
