Premier Sports secures long-term La Liga rights: how to watch

Premier Sports has been named as the successful bidder for La Liga football rights in the UK until the end of the 2021-22 season.

The announcement ends a year of uncertainty for Spanish football fans and seals the fate of streaming service Eleven Sports, which previously carried coverage.

Coverage will be found on La Liga TV, which will appear on the Premier Player streaming service from October, to followed by a launch on Sky in January 2020, making the service available to current and new subscribers to Premier Sports via satellite.

Until La Liga TV goes live on Sky, live games from La Liga will appear across Premier Sports 1 and 2.

Free-to-air highlights and selected match coverage will appear on FreeSports from as early as next week. The first free-to-air game will be Mallorca v Athletic Bilbao on Friday 13th September.

ITV4 was temporary rightsholder for the first three matchdays of the 2019-20 season while a long-term deal was being negotiated.

  • Bundled with Premier Sports: LaLigaTV will be made available by Premier Sports as part of its channel bundle on Sky TV and the Premier Player OTT streaming service for £11.99 per month or £99 per year (with pricing and launch date on Virgin TV to be confirmed).
  • La Liga standalone option: Viewers will be able to add LaLigaTV as a standalone service via Premier Sports, priced at £5.99 per month or £49 per year, once the channel is officially launched on Sky TV and the Premier Player during the coming weeks.
  • Commercial venue option: Premier Sports commercial venue customers will be able to show LaLiga via their Sky TV box or through Premier Sports’ soon-to-be-launched enterprise streaming solution provided by Screach, meaning bars across the UK can bring viewers all the big matches from around Europe every weekend.

  • Premier Sports 1 Sky 412; Virgin 551
  • Premier Sports 2 Sky 429; Virgin 552
  • FreeSports Freeview 64 (some areas only); Freesat 252; Sky 422; Virgin 553
  • La Liga TV to be confirmed
