Tubi (re-) enters UK streaming market

Yet another streaming service plans UK launch next year.

The move will see the ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) service officially make its entrance to the UK market.

Content currently available on Tubi in the US include Megamind starring Will Ferrell and Tina Fey, Scary Movie 1 and 2 starring Marlon Wayans and Anna Faris, the Academy Award-winner No Country for Old Men directed by Joel & Ethan Cohen, and the 13th season of the hit TV series The Bachelorette. Details of what the UK service will offer remains to be confirmed.

As reported by Trusted Reviews late last year, Tubi was once (at least unofficially) in the UK and Europe, before GDPR got blamed for it becoming unavailable.

At the time, Tubi promised it would be back, and at this year's MIPCOM event in Cannes, it confirmed the UK would be among the countries it would be launching in as part of a global expansion.

Like Viacom's Pluto TV, the service relies on adverts, played either at the beginning (pre-roll) or inserted into the stream.

Tubi will also be launching a children's streaming service, called Tubi Kids, albeit first of all in the US.

Tubi is currently carried on devices including Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, iOS and Android in the US and Canada, giving an indication of where the UK service might be found when it launches next year.
