Disney+ UK to include The Simpsons

The Simpsons will be setting up a new home on Disney+ in the UK.

The omission of Springfield's most famous family from the Disney+ launch line-up did  not go unnoticed from previous announcements from Disney, prompting a fan backlash.

Following the confirmation that Disney had struck a deal with Sky over the inclusion of Disney+ on Sky Q devices from launch and on Now TV boxes within the coming months, it appears more has been agreed upon between the two companies than was announced.

Within an hour of the deal being announced, Disney+ launched a teaser promoting The Simpsons. Today, Disney+ has confirmed over 600 episodes of the long-running animation series will be available on the service, alongside content from Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic and Disney itself.

The Simpsons became an unlikely part of the Disney family after Disney took over 21st Century Fox last year.

It's understood the deal will not stop Sky showing episodes of The Simpsons via linear means.

Last week, Sky's Zai Bennett indicated to the BBC Radio 5 Live Must Watch podcast that The Simpsons would continue to be available via Sky, although there was no mention of exclusivity. Sky's previous deal with Disney covering linear partnerships still has time to run.
