Classic Children's ITV shows added to BritBox

Classic ITV children's shows are being added to BritBox UK from May.

From 7th May, subscribers to the service will be able to indulge their inner child and turn back time to enjoy the first seasons of

  • The Worst Witch (1998),
  • Press Gang (1989)
  • Children’s Ward (1989).

The pilot episodes of the following programmes will also be available:

  • Puddle Lane (1985),
  • Murphy’s Mob (1982),
  • Jungle Run (1999),
  • Tots TV (1993),
  • Wizadora (1991),
  • Wolves, Witches and Giants (1995),
  • Woof! (1989)

Additionally, Gerry Anderson collection will be launched including ten of the best episodes of Thunderbirds (1965) alongside the documentary All About Thunderbirds (2008). The pilot episodes of  Captain Scarlet (1967), Joe 90 (1968) and Stingray (1964) will also feature.

ITV originally made some of its archive children's programmes available online in 2013, after the success of a special weekend of programmes celebrating 30 years of Children's ITV on the CITV channel. This is the first time the shows will have a regular home online as ITV moves more of its archive shows to BritBox over other streaming platforms. It follows frequent requests to BritBox requesting classic children's shows to be added.

Will Harrison, Managing Director of BritBox UK said:

We have seen a trend in our subscribers favouring ‘comfy content’ and lighter viewing over the last month, so we’ve been raiding the archives to keep everyone suitably entertained. We hope that our viewers enjoy the trip down memory lane as much as we have!

BritBox UK is controlled by ITV, which has a 90% in the venture. Minority stakeholder BBC has been investing in making more of its children's programmes available on iPlayer for up to five years but hasn't so far indicated any move to open up the children's TV archives.
